Justice, Mercy,
& Missions
Justice and mercy are central to our apprenticeship to Jesus. We demonstrate the love of God by actively addressing local and global injustices, standing with the marginalized through tangible actions of peace and empowerment, and working towards righteousness and justice, fostering compassion through solidarity. We seek the shalom of God in Indianapolis and all of His creation by building covenant friendships, reconciling, learning from, serving, advocating for, and dreaming with our neighbors.
Vulnerable Families & Individuals
-
If you’ve ever considered becoming a foster parent, the time is now. Unaccompanied migrant children are fleeing to the U.S. for safety. They should be cared for by a family instead of an institution.
Can you become a foster parent through Bethany Christian Services to give unaccompanied migrant children a safe, loving home—until they can reunite with family?

Circles is a community-driven program that works to increase upward mobility for individuals and families in poverty in Indianapolis.
Volunteers are called Allies and are the primary foundation of support for Circle Leaders. As an Ally, your job is to listen, ask questions, make suggestions, and be a true friend and supporter. You and 1-2 other Allies will help Circle Leaders use their unique gifts and skills to reach their goals, and Circle Leaders will help you better understand poverty in your community.
-
Circles meets every Thursday evening at Tabernacle Presbyterian to share a meal and offer community for individuals coming out of poverty. Volunteers are always needed to provide and serve a home cooked meal. This is a great opportunity for a Missional Community, a group of friends, or a family to engage in together. It can be a one-time or a recurring commitment.

Global Witness

Sinapis equips local entrepreneurs in emerging market economies to launch and grow profitable Kingdom businesses. Their companies build the economy and alleviate poverty by creating jobs. As they reflect Christ’s love in the marketplace, they can make disciples and fund the advance of the gospel from inside the culture.
Connect with Sinapis by attending and / or volunteering at local informational events, mentoring entrepreneurs in frontier markets, going on a vision trip, becoming a prayer partner (includes monthly global prayer calls), or donating.

Nicaragua Resource Network (NRN) is a volunteer-led non-profit organization that collaborates with Nicaraguan partners to address the spiritual, physical, medical, and educational needs of impoverished children and families. Soma has been partnering with NRN since 2019, with our main connection being our sister church, Iglesia Bethsaida.
Soma offers short-term trips throughout the year that will align with NRN’s vision and address the needs of Iglesia Bethsaida. These trips are great opportunities for our church to serve others with our time, talents, and God-given gifts. Our teams are relationally focused, but some center around various areas of gifting (medical, education, construction, college, youth, special needs, worship).
-
Serve our sister community by sponsoring students who are either currently enrolled at Rey Salomón I or have graduated from RS1. Primary or secondary sponsorship is $40/month, special needs is $50/month, and college sponsorship is $75/month.

Houseless &
Homeless Care
We have forged a robust partnership with PourHouse, an outreach organization aiding individuals experiencing homelessness by addressing housing, treatment, and healthcare challenges. Within this collaboration, Soma Midtown operates the Welcome Home Team under PourHouse. This team facilitates the delivery of furniture and essential household items to newly housed clients, empowering them to establish a comfortable home environment.
-
Every Saturday morning, the Welcome Home Team seeks volunteers to assist individuals settling into their new apartments. Volunteers will help load furniture and household goods onto a box truck, deliver these items to apartments, and provide support through conversation and prayer over the neighbors we serve.
-
The Welcome Home Team's warehouse is stocked with generously donated furniture and home goods from individuals and organizations across the city. Your contributions make a real difference in helping families create comfortable homes.
If you have any gently used items such as dressers, beds, chairs, bedding, etc., donate here!
-
In addition to the box truck, the Welcome Home Team frequently requires a vehicle with a hitch to pull a trailer during Saturday morning move-ins. If you have a suitable vehicle and are willing to serve in this capacity, please fill out this form.
-
While many items in our warehouse are generously donated secondhand, there are essential items like trash cans, toilet brushes, shower curtains, and more that we need to purchase. To support us in keeping the warehouse stocked with these necessities, check out the Amazon wishlist.
-
The Lead Team oversees all aspects of the Welcome Home Team's operations, including warehouse supply and organization, managing large furniture donations, scheduling new client move-ins, and coordinating volunteers.
If you are passionate about serving individuals experiencing homelessness and have strong organizational skills, we would love to have you join our team.
